The North Shore sits on the northwest banks of the North Thompson and Thompson Rivers. It stretches from the rivers on the east and south, to Brocklehurst (at 12th st) in the west and Batchelor Heights in the north. This is an older, more developed neighbourhood in Kamloops, with a large, bustling commercial area (along Tranquille and 8th st). Many of the houses are older on smaller lots, but a few near McArthur Island have larger lots with waterfront property. There is a mobile home park and many apartment building complexes, in addition to townhouses and condos. This is a great place for investment property or first time home buyers. Many of the houses have in-law suites or basement suites. There are multiple seniors’ residences available here as well.
This area is home to McArthur Island Park and Sports Center, which houses an outdoor pool, butterfly garden, walking trails, soccer and baseball fields, and a skateboard park, just to name a few.
Also in the North Kamloops neighbourhood is the continuation of the Rivers Trail (a paved multi-use trail). It splits as it crosses the Overlander Bridge and winds to the west along the Thompson River towards Tranquille as well as to the north along the North Thompson River out to Westsyde.
Residents in this neighbourhood enjoy a quick commute, easy access to shopping and amenities, and amazing all-season, outdoor opportunities within walking distance. The transit system also services this neighbourhood well.
