Juniper Ridge is situated at the south-east end of Kamloops on a hillside south of the South Thompson River, just south of Valleyview. It is nestled in the hills, and many homes enjoy expansive views of the South Thompson River and mountainside. Juniper Ridge is accessible by one road (Highland Road), although emergency access is available via Rose Hill. Its proximity to both nature and the urban city life draws both young and older families.
Homes in Juniper Ridge range in price from $250,000 to $1.5 million. The neighbourhood can be loosely divided into the older “Juniper East” subdivision and the newer “Juniper West” subdivision. Most homes are single-family units, with one multi-family complex in Juniper East. Juniper West is a planned community, offering newly developed homes, with projects being developed in the future as well. The wide range in prices allows for the area to be accessible for those who have different budgets.
While mostly a residential neighbourhood, there is a small convenience store at the community entrance. Residents of Juniper Ridge also enjoy the Dog Park and the Kamloops Bike Ranch, in addition to a community park and playground, separate from the elementary school.
Juniper Ridge is a quiet and residential community tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Students in the community attend Juniper Ridge Elementary and Valleyview Secondary.
Juniper Ridge has a rich history. The area used to be called Cordonier ranch prior to 1971, and it was used for sheep grazing during the spring during their travels from the Crowfoot mountains to the Shuswap. An incident involving a semi-trailer and the sheep required the city to put in restrictions so the sheep could not travel along the highway. The ranch became unused, and Juniper Ridge was established.
When housing developments began, it was called The Hesperia Development Project, which was not initially within Kamloops but was included in the town limits in 1972. The Juniper Lands Project was created in 1971 after the Hesperia Development Project was sold to Juniper Lands Ltd.
