The Village of Ashcroft is a dry, warm, small-town oasis bank of the Thompson River in BC. With a small-town population of 1,500, it is the ideal destination for people looking for small-town charm and affordable, beautiful homes. It is home to outdoor adventure lovers who enjoy hiking, mountain biking, while couples with young families can enjoy the community in a safe environment with a wide variety of parks and recreational activities.
Ashcroft is also ideal for people who suffer from arthritis or respiratory ailments due to the very brief winter and long, dry, warm summers. Ashcroft has the driest climate outside of the Arctic, and its clean air, combined with its long summers, offers permanent relief for people who don’t fare well in a damp climate.
Ashcroft’s summer heat also creates near-perfect conditions for locally grown fruits and vegetables. You can either visit some of our local growers, or you can turn your backyard into your own organic garden. You don’t have to be a gardening expert either, because our climate does most of the work for you.
If you love small-town life or are looking for a great new adventure in an affordable beautiful community, Ashcroft is the perfect place for you.
Homes in Ashcroft cost between $70,000 and $600,000. There are a variety of MLS properties available, but the most popular are single-family homes and mobile homes.
Living in BC has some serious perks when it comes to things to do and see. Ashcroft has plenty of parks, facilities, and recreation services that residents love. Whether you are looking for family fun or just to spend the day exploring, visiting any of these Ashcroft spots is a great way to spend the day. The Drylands Arena, Desert Hills Ranch, Ashcroft Pool, Ashcroft Community Hall, Golf, Village Parks, Fishing, Museum, The Ashcroft HUB, and Arts and Culture are all popular spots for residents. Ashcroft has a number of conveniently located grocery stores, local shops, pharmacies, restaurants, and more.
Since Ashcroft is a small village of around 1,500 people, there are no designated neighbourhoods. Businesses are located close together in a distinct district, and the rest of the village is residential.
Desert Sands School is the community school - it is a K-12 that serves families from multiple communities.
Ashcroft was incorporated in 1952, but it has a history that dates back before the Cariboo Gold Rush in the 1860s. Indigenous people inhabited the area immemorial, including the Nlaka’pamux Nation and the present Oregon Jack Creek Indian Band, First Nations of Ashcroft Indian Band, the Bonaparte Indian Band, the Secwepemc Nation, and Cook’s Ferry. In the mid-1800s, the Nlaka’pamux Nation joined in the European fur trade when the first settlers arrived in 1859. Ashcroft was named after Ashcroft Manor in England. Ashcroft became a transportation hub for the trade, and the area was designated as Mile 0 for the Cariboo goldfields and BC Express Company. The Cornwall brothers built their own Ashcroft Manor, which became an iconic piece of history. The village is known for its charm and historical atmosphere and has been the site of plenty of popular movies and TV series over the years.
Ashcroft is conveniently located among many popular BC cities and towns. Residents can get around the province quickly.
